O apoio prestado neste tópico não deve ser utilizado para advogar, promover ou apoiar o desenvolvimento de SRM. A realização de experiências de campo de SRM, bem como a realização de investigação técnica e operacional de SRM, estão fora do âmbito.
A atividade visa reforçar as capacidades de detetar, monitorizar e atribuir atividades de investigação, inovação ou implementação relacionadas com a SRM. A atividade deve ser conduzida de acordo com a abordagem de precaução conforme delineado pelo European Group on Ethics, de acordo com a conclusão dos relatórios da SAPEA, as revisões do IPCC, e basear-se nas decisões de organismos internacionais relevantes, principalmente a CBD e apoiar as ambições do Ocean Pact.
