In a context where the impermeabilization of urbanized surfaces has been increasing in recent decades, leading to an increase in the volumes of rainwater to be managed and sometimes a significant impact on the quality of natural receiving environments, the effective management of these waters is a crucial issue, particularly in a context of adaptation to climate change and biodiversity preservation.
Improving the environmental performance of collective sanitation systems represents another major challenge. In this perspective, the Water Agency mainly supports actions aimed at improving the performance of treatment units, controlling discharges from sanitation networks into the natural environment, upgrading private connections and rehabilitating non-collective sanitation facilities located in sensitive areas.
The Water Agency's interventions in the fight against domestic pollution thus aim to achieve the objectives set by the Water Framework Directive, the Urban Wastewater Directive and the Bathing Water Directive, as mentioned in the Water Development and Management Master Plan. They aim to achieve good status of water bodies and to reduce or eliminate pollutant discharges.
