Preserving and restoring natural environments and biodiversity

This deliberation presents the Agency's intervention principles and objectives in the field of ecological restoration of natural and coastal environments, in line with the environmental objectives of the 2022 – 2027 Water Development and Management Master Plan (SDAGE).

The logic pursued is to have a global approach at the scale of the water cycle, taking into account the ecological functioning of natural environments. The actions carried out aim in particular to improve the ecological status of surface waters and to contribute to the preservation and restoration of biodiversity. The approach aims in an integrated way:

• The reduction of morphological and physico-chemical pressures on aquatic, terrestrial and coastal habitats (watercourses, wetlands and non-wetlands) and their biodiversity, and the re-establishment of ecological continuities,
• The prevention of various hazards (runoff and management of rainwater "at source", overflowing of watercourses, limitation of suspended matter flows and clogging of watercourses...), notably causing floods.
