Departmental Scheme for Sensitive Natural Areas 2021-2026
Since the 1970s, the Vendée Department has pursued a policy of land protection for natural environments, through the acquisition, management, and opening to the public of sites of major ecological interest as Sensitive Natural Areas. This policy aims to preserve the remarkable natural habitats of the department and to promote them to the public (while respecting the sensitivity of the environment).
On the occasion of the implementation of its second departmental scheme for Sensitive Natural Areas 2021-2026, the Department has developed new actions, which go beyond the acquisition policy historically put in place. Among these new measures, a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS) label is created to support preservation projects for natural sites, public or private, with strong biodiversity stakes.
This recognition allows the Department to provide technical and financial support to any owner and/or manager wishing to enhance and participate in the protection of biodiversity on their land through the presented scheme.
