Assisting municipalities in managing legal brush clearing obligations

The main objective of brush clearing is to reduce the amount of plant fuel, in order to decrease the intensity of fires and limit their spread to:

• Ensure self-protection of people and property;
• Allow residents to shelter in their homes;
• Secure and facilitate firefighter interventions;
• Avoid excessive mobilization of firefighting resources for the defense of inhabited areas to the detriment of the forest;
• Minimize the risk of accidental fire starting from homes and other buildings and construction sites.

Municipalities meeting the following conditions are considered eligible:

• Be a territory subject to legal brush clearing obligations;
• Municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants located in high fire risk areas

The Region reserves the right to prioritize projects according to the risk index defined
according to ONF DFCI maps.

The development and implementation phases of the funded plans are as follows:

Phase 1: Development of a municipal plan for managing OLDs
These projects must include:

• The development of a map of the municipality's OLDs,
• The planning and prioritization of the implementation of OLDs,
• An implementation strategy,
