Promoting a better distribution between agricultural land, forest, natural or recreational areas by assisting municipalities with afforestation regulations

Afforestation regulation is a land-use planning tool made available to municipalities or inter-municipalities, fully funded by the Department.

The objective is to promote a better distribution between agricultural land, forest, natural or recreational areas and inhabited areas in rural environments, while ensuring the preservation of remarkable natural environments or landscapes.

It allows for the regulation or prohibition of sowing and (re)planting of forest species, with the exception of Christmas tree production subject to specific rules, parks and gardens, nurseries declared as such in the trade and companies register, orchards, hedges and tree alignments composed of deciduous species, snow fences / anti-drift plantings.

Target audience: Municipalities.
