Investing in Aquatic Environment Management and Flood Prevention

The The Aude Department committed, following the November 1999 disaster, to a priority program of "Flood Risk Prevention and Management", aimed at protecting against the damaging effects of floods on inhabited areas, with the objective of protecting people and property.

Enriched by the very positive assessment of all "first generation" PAPI, and in a logic of transposing the Floods Directive (DCI), the State wished to initiate a new PAPI dynamic. This is why the SMMAR EPTB developed a model for a "second generation" PAPI 2 for the years 2015/2020.

This will involve continuing this strategic orientation on rivers by extending it to coastal risks, and to regular management of the watershed and aquatic environments to work towards the restoration and enhancement of wetlands and watercourses in order to protect water resources and combat pollution, but also to preserve the geomorphological balance of the watercourse and its biodiversity.
