Preventing the impacts of maritime and coastal activities through a circular economy approach

As fishing and aquaculture contribute to the waste generated, GALPA has a role to play in promoting the transition to a circular economy. This type of economy can bring them many benefits, not only through more efficient use of local resources, better health of aquatic ecosystems and increased economic resilience, but also through opportunities to create more added value, as well as new skilled jobs.

The fight against marine litter mainly involves actions to prevent waste at source, but also better management of land-based waste. From the point of view of recycling fishing gear, the Anti-Waste Law contributes to our participation in the application of this necessary "greening" of the fishing and aquaculture sector, based on the principle of the 3 Rs:

•Reduce: limit plastic inputs into marine environments. •Reuse: the various nets and oyster bags. This involves finding solutions for reusing these different materials for other purposes •Recycle: study all the trades used by our fishermen and oyster farmers, the different materials and types of plastics, in order to valorize this "waste". •
