Il National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) annuncia un programma che offre ai beneficiari dei finanziamenti K01, K08, K23 e K25 sostenuti dal NIDDK l'opportunità di richiedere un supporto tramite Small Grant (R03) in un momento qualsiasi durante gli ultimi anni del periodo di erogazione del loro premio K. Questa opportunità di finanziamento per sovvenzioni di pianificazione della ricerca clinica supporta i richiedenti nei loro sforzi di pianificazione per condurre ricerca clinica collaborativa. La sovvenzione può essere utilizzata per supportare lo sviluppo di un protocollo di studio e di un MOP, nonché per condurre studi preliminari per affinare le procedure dello studio o documentare il potenziale di reclutamento. La sovvenzione non deve essere utilizzata per generare dati sugli effetti di un intervento proposto. Questo NOFO dell'NEI è applicabile sia agli studi di ricerca epidemiologici che a quelli di sperimentazione clinica.

Lo scopo del Programma di Premi per il Miglioramento della Ricerca (REAP) per Scuole di Professioni Sanitarie e Scuole di Dottorato è stimolare la ricerca di base e clinica in istituzioni educative che conferiscono diplomi di laurea o avanzati a un numero significativo di scienziati della ricerca della Nazione, ma che non sono state destinatarie principali di supporto NIH. Le sovvenzioni REAP creano opportunità per scienziati e istituzioni altrimenti improbabili a partecipare estensivamente ai programmi di ricerca NIH di contribuire allo sforzo di ricerca biomedica e comportamentale della Nazione. Le sovvenzioni REAP sono destinate a sostenere progetti di ricerca su piccola scala proposti da membri della facoltà di istituzioni domestiche idonee, a esporre studenti universitari e/o laureati presso scuole di professioni sanitarie o scuole di dottorato a progetti di ricerca meritevoli e a rafforzare l'ambiente di ricerca dell'istituzione richiedente. Le istituzioni idonee devono conferire diplomi di laurea o avanzati rilevanti per il NIH nelle professioni sanitarie e aver ricevuto meno di $6 milioni all'anno di supporto NIH (costi totali) in 4 degli ultimi 7 anni fiscali. In questo NOFO, un college è un'entità autonoma e non una componente di un sistema universitario.

Lo scopo di questo Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) per le istituzioni focalizzate sugli studenti universitari è sostenere piccole borse di ricerca presso istituzioni che non ricevono finanziamenti sostanziali dal NIH, con un'enfasi sulla fornitura di esperienze di ricerca biomedica principalmente per studenti universitari e sul miglioramento dell'ambiente di ricerca presso le istituzioni richiedenti. Le istituzioni idonee devono rilasciare lauree di primo livello in scienze e non aver ricevuto più di 6 milioni di dollari all'anno di supporto NIH (sia in costi diretti che in costi indiretti F e A) in 4 degli ultimi 7 anni fiscali. Lo scopo di questo Avviso di Opportunità di Finanziamento (NOFO) è far progredire la ricerca traslazionale per comprendere meglio l'emergere e il peggioramento dei disturbi dell'umore e psicotici (ad esempio, depressione perimenopausale (PMD), disturbo d'ansia generalizzato, disturbo bipolare e schizofrenia) durante la transizione menopausale (MT) nel tentativo di identificare bersagli per lo sviluppo futuro di nuovi interventi terapeutici. Questa opportunità di finanziamento mira a far progredire la ricerca traslazionale innovativa per comprendere meglio i meccanismi neurobiologici e comportamentali sottostanti dei disturbi dell'umore e della psicosi e dei sintomi correlati durante la MT. Questa opportunità di finanziamento incoraggia anche i ricercatori interdisciplinari a collaborare a studi sull'umore e sulla psicosi durante la MT. Gli aspetti dei disturbi dell'umore e della psicosi di interesse includono: sintomi depressivi classici in combinazione con sintomi della menopausa (ad esempio, vampate di calore, sudorazioni notturne, disturbi del sonno) e sfide psicologiche, il ruolo degli steroidi riproduttivi nella regolazione dell'umore e del comportamento durante la MT, la diagnosi dei sintomi dell'umore e della psicosi nella fase menopausale, l'indagine sui sintomi psichiatrici e della menopausa co-occorrenti, l'apprezzamento dei fattori psicosociali comuni nella mezza età e le diagnosi differenziali. I criteri di revisione si concentreranno sulla completezza della neurobiologia e dei meccanismi d'azione sottostanti i sintomi dell'umore e della psicosi e sul lavoro basato su ipotesi.

Le registrazioni neurali invasive forniscono una finestra senza precedenti sul cervello umano per esplorare i circuiti neurali e le dinamiche neurali sottostanti stati d'animo complessi, emozioni, funzioni cognitive e comportamenti con alta risoluzione spaziale e temporale. Inoltre, la capacità di stimolare, tramite gli stessi elettrodi, consente test causali diretti modulando le dinamiche di rete. Questa opportunità di finanziamento mira a colmare una lacuna nella conoscenza scientifica della funzione dei circuiti neurali correlata ai disturbi della salute mentale. I ricercatori dovrebbero mirare a domande specifiche adatte a modalità di registrazione invasiva che abbiano un alto potenziale traslazionale. Lo sviluppo di nuove tecnologie e terapie è al di fuori dello scopo di questo NOFO.
