Applying new rules on visibility in road design (training)

The rules for the geometric design of road infrastructure are based on foundations, generally old, some of which have been subject in recent years to a global re-examination in light of an update of knowledge of the parameters influencing their definition (technical, technological developments, user behavior, ...).

The objective of this global re-examination is notably to seek potential margins allowing for the optimization of the integration and cost of infrastructure.

As part of this approach, the rules on visibility and on radii at salient angles of the longitudinal profile, appearing in current technical guides (ARP1, ICTAAL2, ....) have been revised and integrated into a Cerema technical guide entitled "Design of roads and motorways, revision of rules on visibility and on radii at salient angles of the longitudinal profile" published in October 2018.

These new rules, applicable to the national road network by ministerial instruction of October 01, 2018, can, for the sake of coherence of the road network throughout the territory, serve as a reference document for the development of local authority projects.
