Preserving remarkable natural environments and preventing fire risks as part of the "Fire War" initiative

For young people aged 18 to 25, the Sud Region is creating the Regional Forest Guard. An initiative that is part of the Climate Plan, to preserve remarkable natural environments and prevent fire risks as part of the "Fire War" initiative.

Composed of more than 250 young people, this guard covering the entire territory provides a human means of surveillance and information on forest fire prevention. These young people followed high-level training for 1 week under the control of fire professionals. The surveillance of the massifs will be greatly reinforced.

The missions of the Regional Forest Guard

• Develop a culture of fire risk among the residential or transient population frequenting forest massifs and among young people participating in the operation.
• Strengthen the capacities of regional actors in terms of prevention, information, awareness, and surveillance of fire risk near natural and forest areas.
• Support existing massif surveillance systems, approved by civil security during risk periods.
• Alongside the Communal Forest Fire Committees in particular, the Regional Forest Guard will play an essential role on the ground. Aged 18 to 25, the young guards have undergone prior training…
