Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is the richest region in mainland France in terms of species: it is home to 60 to 90% of all species recorded in mainland France.

It includes 65% of plant species, 83% of nesting birds, 87% of dragonflies and damselflies, and 63% of amphibians and reptiles.

Several of them are only present in the regional territory (Orsini's Viper, Arnaud's Romulea, etc.), which gives significant responsibility to regional actors, and many are listed on the regional red lists of threatened species which assess the risks of extinction of species.

The preservation of these species must therefore focus on threatened species, but also on so-called ordinary species for which significant declines are observed and which constitute a lever for raising awareness of biodiversity preservation.

The aim here is to support projects for the protection, conservation, preservation and management of species.

Local authorities and their groupings (notably mixed syndicates), public establishments, public interest groups, natural area managers, associations, businesses.
