Studying the state of collections and their conservation conditions, working on the conservation and restoration of works in their collections are major challenges for museums benefiting from the "Musée de France" designation. The Ministry of Culture supports owners and managers who help their museums conserve and protect their collections, through the Regional Funds for Restoration Aid (FRAR).

Created in 2000 at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, as part of the overall decentralization policy, the Regional Funds for Restoration Aid for Museums (FRAR) are support mechanisms financed by the State (Direction régionale des affaires culturelles) and the Regional Council. They are intended for museums holding the "Musée de France" designation.

This fund aims to help a local authority or an association finance restoration or preventive conservation operations for works of art or objects in order to protect their collections, and whose cost would not allow their realization without external aid.
