Helping owners reclaim fallow poplar groves to sustainably produce quality wood

Although poplar is an essential resource for the Loire wood industry, a chronic deficit in the renewal of poplar groves after exploitation is gradually widening the gap between needs and available volumes.

In addition to the regional contribution to the "Merci le peuplier" charter, which contributes to the reforestation of poplar groves after harvest, the Region wishes to complete its support for this poplar sector by committing to the reclamation of poplar fallow land. Bringing these back into production will help combat the renewal deficit and contribute to the sustainable supply of the local poplar sector.

To be considered eligible, the project must:

• Concern poplar plots exploited for more than 5 years and/or having changed ownership since their exploitation, whose existing growth offers no prospect of producing quality wood;
• Include a minimum of 200 plants, up to a limit of 2,000 plants supported per beneficiary per year;
• The beneficiary must adhere to a forest certification system.
