Helping forest owners renew their mature and/or unsuitable stands for soil and climate conditions

The forest is multifunctional: it addresses economic, environmental, and societal issues. Sustainable forest management guarantees the balance between these services and must now take climate change into account. Stand renewal through planting is one of the tools to adapt our forests more quickly to the future climate, provided a thorough diagnosis and appropriate technical support.

The regional scheme will contribute to renewing forest stands in an uncertain context of climate change, through full or enrichment planting. In addition to the long-term production of quality wood, these works will improve ecosystem resilience and contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change, particularly by developing the potential of the forest carbon sink.

To be considered eligible, the project must:

• Cover a minimum area of 4 ha and provide for a minimum of 2,000 plants;
• Be based on a pre-renewal diagnosis carried out by a qualified professional;
• The plots concerned must be subject to a sustainable management document and the project must comply with the intervention program included therein.
